Pamporovo is about to come into its own as it forms a central part of the €200 million Perelik Project, which will connect the Smolyan lakes, Pamporovo, Perelik, one of the highest peaks in Bulgaria and the year-round resorts of Chepelare and Mechi Chal.
The project will cover an area of around 27,000 hectares, with 127km of ski piste and 30 new ski lifts. Construction began at the end of 2007, the first stage build an extra 15km of ski runs which will be completed in 2008. In addition, hotels are planned in Smolyan lakes area and the Raikovski Livadi resort village.
